The transmission on my 2002 VW Jetta 1.8t has been jerking while changing gears for a few months. Just recently the car wont change gears anymore (can reverse and stays in first gear and redlines and occasionally changes to 2nd or 3rd.) What can be the problem? Something expensive or something simple?

Mines doing the exact same thing, except mine still shifts. It seems like it's slipping and then it will shift real hard into second gear. Does yours only do it in 1st and 2nd? I bought a new tranny for it but haven't installed it as of yet...

Also, what tranny do you have?
