timing belt issue...
 

i have a '00 jetta 2.0 and there's a problem with my timing belt. i had it replaced about a year ago along with my water pump after it malfunctioned during a road trip. it's been a lil less than year with the new timing belt. i went to the dealership yesterday and they told me that the timing belt was on too tight but they were reluctant on going in and loosening it since it has been a while since it's been changed and that might mean that the engine's used to it. but at the same time they said that it might snap. should i get it loosened? or not? or some other alternative? also, is it an interference engine? thanks in advance.

WHO DID THE WORK????
if the dealer did it hang on the receipts and then it will be there problem to fix it when it breaks, It's not whether if it is it's more like when is it???

contact a lawyer by phone to see if you have a case..............it's not your fault

Well if the dealer says it too tight then there is a possibility that it wasnt replaced.....the roadside garage machanic probably just tightened the thing and sent you rideing especially since all that stuff is covered .......You wouldnt be able to tell if it was changed...And maybe they did change it and put the wrong one on thus it being to tight. But AALL IN ALL if you wont break down and get a 40$ timeing belt for peace of mind then maybe its YOU who's too tight.,.....lol

THE BELT NEEDS TO TWIST OUT WITH TEETH FACING YOU WHEN IT IS INSTALLED AND TENSIONED PROPERLY.....IF IT IS SIZED CORRECTLY AND MOST ALL 1.8'S ARE INTERRUPTING VALVES WHICH STOP BEFORE GOING THRU THE HEAD...YOU'LL BE OK IF IT LETS GO
