Starting problems..

hey guys,

My gf's moms' 04 jetta 2.0 is having problems starting up. this started when it started getting cold out, but the car is kept in a garage and in AZ so it's not like its -30 degrees outside anyway.

when i turn the key the starter turns over and everything seems to work fine but it wont start up. my first thought is of course the fuel pump. the 409 relay is good. fuses good. the pump primes fine. after at least 8 or 9 tries the car eventually starts and it runs fine. idles good. no problems. after driving for a while and the car is warm it will start up again.

I know all these signs and symptoms should make this easy for me, but i still can't figure it out. can someone out there help me?!

We need more details about the motor is it petrol or diesel?

Is the battery good is there good cranking speed?

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

Best place to start is have the maf sensor checked out it could just be dirty.. this would be my guess. anything after that is have the rad hoses checked These early modal 2000 jetta had lots of issue with the 4 way hoses breaking and causing the sensor to lip out or malfunction which also can cause the car not to start when it has no idea what the cars temp is.
