Starter?

hello, I'm hoping someone here can help me diagnose my problem.
About a month ago my jetta began taking a little bit longer to start and now I have a clunking sound whenever I start the car. It feels and sounds about the same as it would if I "pop started" the car. Also, sometimes, the noise is lesser to non-existent if I've been running the engine. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
matt

RE: Starter?

I brought it over to the dealership and it wouldn't do it for them (as it tends not to after the motor has been running for an extended time). So they said the starter was fine and its a broken exhaust mount and that what I'm hearing is probably the exhaust bumping the frame.
I trust my dealership, I'm just not totally convinced. Surely it would make this sound when I went over a bump if it was only a loose exhaust. But no it only happens while the key is turned, for less than a second, after its been sitting for an hour or more.
Its a hard sound that shakes the vehicle. I really don't know much more other than what's in my first post.

Matt
