Stalling 2001 Jetta
My wife owns a 2001 Jetta 2.0L. About 3 weeks ago we installed a new battery from Autozone. The car started and the radio even worked. I have heard that sometimes the radio goes into anti-theft mode when power is disconnected to the car so I was worried about installing the new battery. I was relieved when the car started. About two weeks ago I took the car in for loss of power and check engine light.
A diagnostic was ran and found that the pre-cat O2 sensor was bad and the spark plugs needed changed. After this work was done the car ran great until about 3 days later the car started stalling and the check engine light came on. Took the car back to the mechanic and they found the vacuum line was off. Plugged the line back in, the code went away, and drove the car away. The next day the check engine light came back on, took it back to the mechanic and found the MAF was dirty. Cleaned the MAF, code went away, and drove the car away. My wife took the car on a business road trip the next day and got about 2 hours down the road and ran into some road construction. When she slowed down, the car starting stalling. She got it back home and I took it to two muffler shops and did a back pressure test on the CAT and it tested good.
Took it to Autozone and got two codes, P0171 and P0725. Did I mention the check engine light goes off for 1 day and then comes back on the next day? I took it back to the mechanic and they found code P1152 (Bank 1 mixture adaptive area lower lean limit not reached) and P1570 (ECM locked).
They told me to take the car to a dealership because the computer might be bad. Called the dealership and they said the computer might need re-programmed because I have recently changed the battery and that could be causing all my problems.
Please HELP!!!!!! My wife wants to drive the car off a cliff.....
