Default Speed Sensor not working

I have a 2003 5-speed automatic transmission jetta with 60K mileage. Once the car "heats up" aka car supposedly going 60 mph, the car is actually going 15-20 miles faster than what speedometer is reading and cruise control starts hesitating and needle is "bouncing". Can the sensor be replaced and not entire transmission, spending $5K to fix???

I will never buy another VW, and plan on telling that to anyone who asks!! This is my families' 3rd VW and all 3 have had major problems that end with car having to be sold for parts as fixing is more than cars' worth.

Default Try the Speed Transmitter.

I'm having the same problem. I dont care for VW either. However, Im trying to fix my wifes car. If you have heard or know what the problem was I would appreciate if you could tell me what fixed it.

I researched the problem a little and I think it might be the speed transmitter. Its a $32 part. I would appreciate any helpful feedback.
Thank you.

Usually, when you have a bad speed sensor, it will give you a check engine light code. Is the check engine light on???
