Spark Plugs

Hello again, I recently took my 2001 Jetta to a Volkswagen dealership in Orem, Utah and they told me i only had standerd spark plugs in it. They also told me that it would cost $180.00 to put platinum plugs in. How inportant is it for my Jetta to have Platinum plugs? Will it run better? They never really did tell me. If so i dont want to spend that much just for plugs, how hard would it be to put them in yourself? Thanks

I live in Utah.....go to a VW dealer, buy the NGK plugs, got to autozone and pick up for free the spark plug gapper. The NGK plugs are already gapped but you can test them on the gspper if you really want to. those plugs are great. the platinums are stupid, especially the quads, or whatever they are. I always get the NGK from the dealer.

Thanks for the input, im glad to know im not gonna have to pay that much and yeah your right Ken Garff is a rip off big time! But i like to take my car there a couple times a year just so they can go over it completly. I guess ill go with NGK then, thanks again!
