i was thinking about buying the 2008 gli-

How reliable are they?
Are they hard to maintain b/c im a student and i dont make thay much money

GLi has the turbo motor if i remember correctly. turbo motor requires high octane gas. if you are looking for easier to maintain, get the base model. i think for 08, they have the 2.0t & 2.5 motors. go for the one with the 2.5. its a bigger motor, but takes 87 octane gas and you have less performance to worry about parts breaking.

The GLi is the turbo charged 2.0 liter model. My cousin had one and I loved it so I ended up getting a 2.5 just to have a Jetta of the same body style. I love my Jetta, but if you are serious about low upkeep and low cost ownership don't buy German cars. I am not saying they aren't great vehicles, I love mine, but the cost of ownership seems to bit a bit higher on my Jetta than any other vehicle I ever owned and the cost of parts and repairs sometimes surprises me as well. My Jetta has been a good running car and reliable. It is ,however, getting up in its years and thus I am starting to get the nickle and dime effect of aging parts. By direct comparison the parts are almost always more expensive that the same parts for other vehicles in the same general class. Again, I don't mean to demean the quality of VW's build, but inherently owning them is a bit higher cost than comparable cars from other manufacturers...
