Default proper coolant type

Hi,
new to the site and brand new to volkswagens. wow, these cars are fun to work with. anyhow, its my fiance's car, a 2002 1.8t. when the coolant light came on and i was at work, she asked her boss if any ol' type of coolant would do. sure, he says, so she fills it up with the green stuff. since it's sunday, i gotta wait till tomorrow to but the g12 and flush the system. does anyone think this'll turn up hard core future repairs? she's driving it about 25 miles yet tonight. thanks for any help.

okay, so anyone else who doesn't know, i'll answer my own question. yes, it can ruin your radiator, the internals to your block, head, everything, by leaving back corrosion deposits, residual. here's the word of advice from the local porsche, audi, vw dealer service dept. drain it, fill it up with water and run engine till hot, drain water repeat x3, refill with g12 and it should be good. here goes nothing.
