Im thinking of buying a jetta to commute with and i was wondering what i need to look out for or and suggestions on things that go wrong with certain things...Looking at something late 80's early 90's any suggestions would be great...

 

Why that old, if you want something that old, buy an american car. It's cheaper to work on, better on gas, easier to work on less complicated, and it's an american product. I don't suggest buying any VW to commute with until like 95 or newer. In that case just buy 2.0...you're racing and it's good on gas.
