Default Please help a newbie!!

2012 Jetta 2.5.

Intermittent problem: Stalls without warning. No Check Engine light and no codes.

Constant: Seems low on power. I am unable to get it to rev above 4000 RPM. Accelerator to floor results in RPM rhythmically varying between 3900 and 4000 RPM.

I checked fuel rail pressure - approximately 55-60 PSI (Got high pressure instantly) - no significant change with RPM change. Noid test on all injectors good - all injectors get impulse to open.
Battery and Alternator both new.

When looking at the live data, I noticed a huge variance in the timing advance for cyl #1 ranging from -3 all the way to +30 degrees? I don't know what to think of this but it certainly seems weird to me.

I'm hoping it isn't the Cat - since I'm in Commiefornia....

I don't want to pour a lot of money into this car, but I would like to figure this out.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas either for diagnostics or repair....
