Default Odd problem....Car won't turn off when key out

So....Im having a little bit of a odd one with my 98 jetta. When i take the key out of the ignition, all of my gauges start flashing and there is a loud clicking noise coming from the dash and the lights stay on till the battery dies. I am able to jump start it and charge the battery but as soon as I turn off the car and take the key out, the gauges flash and lights stay on till the battery dies. I have noticed that it seems to happen more when it has been wet out or wet in the previous days. Sound like a ignition coil issue? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hmmm...well I am not a mechanic by any means but my Jetta acts up in the rain sometimes. I had my 96 Jetta refuse to turn off when the key came out; it would keep running constantly. I had to put it in gear and stall it in order to shut down the engine. I could start it normally After taking it to a mechanic, my ignition went out and had to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

How long does it take for the battery to die? It might be as simple as that.
