OBD-II trouble code P1296 "Fuel Air Metering"

I have a 2001 VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition, 1.8 T, ~75000 miles with check engine light on. OBD-II code reads P1296[/b] and says it is due to "Fuel Air Metering." No noticeable problems upon driving, but after driving and restarting the car it idles at a much higher RPM (~2500) and does not return to normal idle RPMs until car is allowed to sit parked for a while. Auto store clerk suggested it may be a faulty MAF sensor, but wasn't sure. I'm pretty sure the MAF sensor was replaced by the dealership a while back when under the extended warranty on that part. I've also read that the P1296[/b] code could indicate a cooling system malfunction. Would that cause the idle problems? Any ideas? Thanks.

yeah, it definetly sounds like a maf sensor issue. i had the same problem in my Mazda before and it turned out to be the MAF sensor, sometimes you can just clean them with some sort of electric circuit cleaner give that a shot first before buying a new one.

could be a maf but also check your vacuum lines that can throw ur fuel trim all out of wack dose it say bank 1 system lean or n e thing like that? ODB II dosen't always show the full code...
