Default Not sure what's wrong with my car?

I have an automatic 2001 Jetta GLS 2.0 with 150k miles on it. Last week I was driving on the interstate at about 70 mph and the RPM's were between 5 and 6,000. It did not want to shift up. Once I pulled over to check my fluids, I turned my car off. My transmission fluid was full so I turned the car back on and headed back up the road. My car was shifting just fine. That's the first and last time that has ever happened and my mechanic and I can't figure out what it is. Also, when I'm stopped at a stoplight or a stop sign, it feels like someone is bumping into the back of me. Any idea's on what this could be? I just replaced the catalytic converter and had my oil changed. It doesn't idle hard very often but when it does, it worries me. Thanks!
