need help with backup lights
Hi All! I recently purchased a great old 1991 Jetta Gl 1.6 diesel, 5spd I figured i had better join the forum since this is my first VW.
Im having a problem with my reverse lights, fuse #14 blows as soon as i turn the key on, even without engaging reverse. I have not even begun to search the wires yet as ive been more worried about the charging system (installed new alternator today) not to go off topic but does 13.44 volts sound right at idle (at the battery)?
any ideas on the reverse lights/circuit would be appreciated. thanks all

Welcome to the forum.
You need to check out the reverse light wiring with a meter because if its blowing the fuse there is a dead short to earth somewhere.

so is the #14 fuse dedicated to just the backup lights? or is shared with other circuits?
Also my cruise control doesnt work at all. im not sure how these work either ive been reading that they are vacuum and electrical.
Ive also just found out that they only sold 750 of these fine little eco-diesel cars in 1991 i didnt realize that this was such a rare car.
I think i just found a restoration project!!
