Lowering springs.
 

I want to lower my stock 2001 jetta. Just wondering to what height i should lower it and what all is involved and the cost of doing so. I know a set of springs is around a hundred bucks or so but i just want to know what's involved in the whole job ofreplacing the stock springs.

Lowering can get pricey.

I haven't lowered my VW yet, but I talked with my buddy with a MK4 yesterday about lowering.

Although you can get some really cheap lowering springs, its really not worth it. If you are going to lower it, he said its smart to just invest in something better, like a fully adjustable coil over kit. Cause you get what you pay for.

i don't know the first thing about suspensions. would it be something i could do myself or would i just want to pay someone else for the labor?

While Swedish, in his infinite wisdom, swears by Neuspeed but I like H&R. If you get them professionally installed, which I reccommend, then make sure they measure all4 sides with you in the car, and put it on the scale.

I'm glad this thread got started because I just recently bought 18" rims for my 04 jetta and have decided I'm going to lower it 2". Now I have to get some lowering springs. I found some Drop Zone lowering springs on ebay for about $100 - I'm guessing with the comments above, not to go with them? Also, do I have to get new shocks, struts...etc in addition to the springs?

some coilovers are really expensive but i just lowered my with vmaxx and it was only $670. it still has a nice smooth ride too.

i lowered my 02 jetta with eibach springs, i have 17" rims, perfect lower, not the smoothest ride but hey it looks bomb haha

i have 1.25" drop vogtland springs on my 98 gls, and they have been working out very well.

This all sounds nice but one thing I noticed some shops that lower will put the car on a pedestal, to balance it out, with you sitting in the car they adjust them hwere they need to be. Adjustables are nice and worth the money, but if all you want is look and don't car about smooth ride or anything then just get lowering springs.
