Default Key fob reprograming

The batteries went dead in both of my key fobs the other day. I replaced the batteries and of course the fob would not open the door and I thought I would have to go to the dealer and have the fobs programmed to my car. Instead of doing that I put the key in the drivers door and held it over to the left and began to push the buttons on the fob and it reprogrammed itself to the car. This is just an FYI so in case this happens to you, you don't have to pay the dealer to do this anymore. I am sure it was to the left but it might be hold to the right if that doesn't work for you.

What year Jetta do you have. My fiance` has a 2000 Jetta and lost both FOBs a couple years ago. She has been using the valet key ever since. Needless to say I want to get her new keys w fobs. I'm not to familiar with VWs . Any help would be great.

Just visit your local VW dealership. Key Fobs are I think $50 a piece?
