just got an 03 jetta, love the car not the problems
so ive been looking at cars for about 2 months and finaly settled on VW. i found a small roadside dealer that specialized in VW. i drive a bunch of jettas and passats and fall in love with the jetta. its a 2003 2.0 GLS. i love the way the car drives and the sound system is amazing, no need for my aftermarket stuff from my old car. but when im almost home from the dealer, the check engine light comes on. so i get it home and snap a few pics then drive it back to the dealer to get the light looked at. they are taking it to a VW dealership that can check the codes and find the problem. but the thing that drives me crazy is, im 17, just bought this as my second car with my own money, and after getting to drive the car home and fall in love with it....it gets pried out of my hands lol.
any one got any ideas as to what could have made the light come on? the manual said it could be emissions which could be o2 censor, catalytic conver or any number of the things. there wasnt any shake in the engine or idle issues, i wouldnt have known about the light if my friend who was with me hadnt noticed it.
thanks guys.

It could be any number of things, but thesystem code checkshould reveal what's going on. Does the dealer you purchased it from provide any kind of warranty on their used vehicles...specifically engine and drive train? If so, and it's in your contract, they should cover any costs of repair. Most reputable used car dealers provide some sort of warranty unless it's sold "As-Is" with no warranty.
Good luck! I have an 02 Jetta TDI and love it.

its funny I have heard of people having all these problems with the Jetta. I have an '01 GLS 1.8 Turbo wolfsburg ed. with 58k miles that have Zero issues....i think maint. in these cars is a huge deal. if you take care of them you will be good, if not you get the shaft.
maybe i'm wrong....and i just got a good one.

Yeah that sucks for sho! If it makes you feel any better I have an 03 GLI and the coolant temp sensor **** the bed and my head cracked they want 6000.00 to fix it. F that !!!!! I just ordered an 03 VR6 BDF to replace it that only has 12850 miles on it to replace the one in it now that has 73000 miles. You could be in alot worse shape mine blows water out of the plug ports.
