Default Are Jetta's doomed?

I've owned two of them now ('97 GT and my current GLS. Both 2.0, 5 speed's) and had my share of issues with both, although I would still rate them extremely reliable. My '97 had 245,000 miles on it when I traded it in on my current one. The 'New' one now has over 140,000 miles on it and I have no reason to believe that it wont go another 140,000.

That being said, everyone here seems to have problems with them, and they are the same problems everyone else has. Is VW improving this model, or do they just keep putting a new skin over the old problems?

I was thinking of getting a new(er) one this time next year as mine should have about 200,000 on it by then, but am I in for the same stuff?

What do you all think?
