Jetta/ Tires/ Road Noise
I have a 2002 Jetta. About a month ago I went to a local garage and asked for a set of new tires. The mechanic recommended Kumhos. I agreed (since I know nothing about tires). Since then I've been suffering from a HIGH volume of road noise (even with the windows closed and the radio on). I guess I'll have to "bite the bullet" and buy another set of tires... I just can't stand it any longer.
What all-season tires should I buy to ensure a smooth, quiet, comfortable ride?
Yes, I know I could drive into a dealership and ask this question. I didn't because I was afraid of an answer such as, "we strongly recommend these handcrafted radials with gold-plated rims for just $3,600 for a set of four."
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Hey rosewall,
I've had good luck with Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Asymmetricals. I liked the performance so much I bought Dunlop winter tires.
Check out tirerack.com. You can read reviews as well as get good prices on high performance tires. Good luck,

If there's a Discount Tire near you, they can hook you up wit no BS...I work at one part time, and they have good Yokohama's or Nitto's...Yoko's are ok, but for performance get Nitto. I have Toyo's cause I Drift and run Autocross. There are cheaper tires you can get besides performance tires...it's all up to you
Sorry you had a bad experience with Kumho. I had Kumho in 99 Audi, wife's SLK230, son's Jetta... I usually check the thread rating and road noise before I choose it. Also, looking at the thread gives you an idea of the noise. Go to tirerack.com and check out different tires and the ratings (grip, wet traction, noise) etc for your make/model car. Then, go shopping in your area. May even go back to the place to get a different set of tires... may be they'll give you some trade in $$ for your Kumhos.
