Jetta misfire

I have 2001 -Jetta with milleage of 45700. I had misfire problem in 35K milleage. They did change my wire and spark plug and it was fine upto now. Again i got same problem in 45700. I can feel some vibration from the engine and engine light flashing. If apply brake or stop my vehicle. It will be ok for some days. I will get same problem after some time but i dont know the exact problem. My mechnic told me that it is engine cylinder misfire. May i know why occurs very often?

I am frustrated lot of this problem.

Kannan

My 02 1.8T now w/ 120k misfires intermittently after 100k on it.

The ignition coils have been replaced (twice) along w/ O2 sensor. The car runs normally - the check engine light comes on while driving but mine never flashes. Once reset, it misfire again within two days.

To the best of my knowledge, VW has never come up w/ a solution for this. I'll be moving to NJ soon and so may be forced to give up the car because it will fail inspection there if it cannot stay clear of a misfire for 100 miles.

Have you had the coil packs replaced? you might check with the dealer to see if they have been replaced under the recall. I just bought a 2001 njetta 1.8 Turbo and ask the dealer to run the vin number to see if this recall was done. To my surprise it had not and they replaced them for free. They had been replaced before by another mechanic but that didnt matter to VW they replaced them anyway. Good luck.
