Jack Stands - where to put em?

Jack Stands - where to put em?
Newbie question - please don't flame me
Can't find it in the manual so... where should I put the Jack Stands when I am rotating the tires?
Also, are their multiple locations to jack up the vehicle? Or just the 4 spots as shown in the manual?
