issues with fuel pumps in 91 jetta gl

i bought a 1991 jetta gl with 192,000 miles on it. ran fine when purchased but it ended up sitting for a while. when we went to drive it it ran fine for about 30 miles then it died at 30 miles an hour and wouldnt start back up. after checking the fuses we found that the fuse for the fuel pump was blown so we replaced it and then it blew again. towed it back to the garage and pulled out the fuel pump to test it. found the pump was shot so i went and bought a new one. we installed it last night and while purchasing the fuel pump i found out that thatcar has two fuel pumps one in tank and one in line. after installing the new fuel pump in the tank we tried to start the car again. the engine turned over and ran for a few seconds maybe 10 before it blew another fuse and shut off. i have a book for the car but it doesnt even mention an inline fuel pump and theres no wiring diagram either. just wondering if anyone knows where the inline pump is and if they know where i could find a wiring diagram. also id like to make this car a small rally racing viehicle, what would i need to do to it to be able to essentailly 4 wheel in it, evey thing is stock right now....

thanks found the booster pump and its fine so i guess the problem is going to have to be the relay for the fuel system... any ideas on where i could purchase a real relay to replace the one that was in the car, not some cheap duralast thing...
