i have a question about the brakes

i have an 06 jetta and the rearbrakes are bad after 20k miles. Is this normal? I know in most cars it is usually the front brakes that go out first, not the rear. and with only 20 thousand miles? i just want to know if this is something to worry about or is it normal for a jetta?
