Help, Vibration!
 

Hey everyone.

Here's the scoop. 97 Jetta 2.0/M5. In a straight line the car vibrates pretty badly and the resenance of the vibration changes in accordance to vehicle speed (not engine speed). It never shakes the car uncontrolably, and it doesn't yank the steering wheel back and forth. However, when I make a left hand turn, the vibration stops completely.

What do you guys think? Wheel bearing? Front/Rear? Something else VW specific? (Sorry, it's my first dub.)

sounds like a missing wheel weight did you check to see of the one on the left is missing.... that would explain the lefthand turn thing because when you make your left turn its putting weight on the wheel witch is balancing the weight of therim witch is why the vibration stops.... check front left and rear left wheel weights... hope this helps

Well.... none of the rims have weights, lol. I guess I'm going to have to look into that. It honestly never occured to me...how can someone mount a tire and not balance it? It just seemed like it would have been common sense.

Had every tire re-balanced. Vibration still there....

Is it when you remove load or put load on a bad bearing that it stops making the noise? I've read both now.

sounds to me like a stiff outer cv joint . check the right side outer, left turn will load the right side , extra weight will stop the vibes

When I had the same problem I thought it was my VW CV joint, but when I brought it to my mechanic he told me that some of my wheel bearing is missing which make the weird noise and some vibration... The weight of the car shift causing the wheel bearing not to make the weird noise and vibration... So, I suggest you check your wheel bearing... Goodluck!!!
