Default gear power seems different after new intake

I just did a DIY intake system on my jetta. I've noticed a slight difference in the shifting and drivetrain.(It's standard, so it's not an automatic transmission issue) But, whenever I shift to 2nd, right when I let the clutch out and go to apply gas, it seems to kind of buck in a way and you hear the car is at somewhat of a low rpm. This never happend before I put the intake on. Is it the difference in power? That small increase/or i hope not decrease? By the way, I don't have the MAF sensor in nor the ecm line hooked up(bad). Once I hook those up should I notice things will get back to normal? And did I do any permanent damage by those two things not being plugged in/installed?

Thanks
