Front end vibrations in Gear
 

I've got a 2000 jetta 2.0 auto, 87k,when I put my car into drive with the brake on,I get alot of vibrations throughout the whole car and steering wheel. In park you can feel the vibrations if you touch the engine, but itsvery mild. I already replaced the upper trans mount and it didnt help. Before I replace the other mounts I wanted to get an opinnon from the forum of what could be cause these vibes.

I would change the trans fluid. I can't tell you how, I have a manual trans. And also get some new urathane dogmount bushings. You can get those at ecstuning.com

how could the trans fluid be involved with my problem? I'm not arguing with you, i'm just wondering.

When it gets dirty it sometimes causes problems with the output gear when it's engaged with the drive shaft. My brother was having the same problem with his Camaro. When you put it into gear does it engage with a noticable thump?

No, but when I put indrive it does take a second or two till you feel it actually engage, I thought maybe the old fluid would throw the torque converter off balance or something.

The way that sounds like a bottle of anti-slip conditioner would help in that case but, you can't just pour it in since you have no trans fluid dipstick. I hear and it says in my factory repair manual you have to go to the dealer and they have some unit that tests the condition of the trans fluid. Does your car idle rough in park or neutral?

No it runs pretty well, like I said originally you can feel the engine vibrating if you put your hand on it. It doesnt sound like its missing or anything, the rpms are constant at idle. Ive never checked the plugs though.

I'd just give her a tune up and get those dogbone mount bushings and you'll be good to go.

Cool. Change that fuel filter too. I got my car 3 years ago and to my dismay the original filter was on.
