Default Engine trouble

I have an 2003 Jetta GLI. Today when I went to start it the battery was dead. After jumping it, the tach was stuck at 10,000 rpm and when I went to give it gas nothing happened. I turned it off then try to start it up again and the battery was dead. If it is something to do with the electric system (battery/alternator). why is it the when I put it in gear and give it gas that I am not even able to rev the engine. Any suggestions please let me know. Thanks! Charlie

Thats right, it will not rev up at all. even if i pin the gas pedal to the floor, the tach does not move.

even tho the tach doesn't move does the motor rev up? Or does it die....my car won't even come close to 10,000 RPM so that's a lil far off. Check your wiring

10,000 would blow up your motor I think.
