cold starting 02 Jetta 1.8T

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I am hoping to get a little help with an issue i am having. Ok after my car sits over night or 4 hours or more (car COMPLETELY cools down) and i go to start it, it starts fine but idles rough. The car idles even rougher when i hold the brake hold put the car into reverse (harder load on motor) and the check engine light comes on.. The problem shortly goes away after about 30 seconds and then runs flawlessly. anyone know what this may be

It could be many things. Check the air filter and spark plugs first and get back to me.

ok checked filter brand new, maybe 1000 miles on it, plugs are ok, a little white but seemingly fine. any other ideas?

If your spark plugs are white you more than likely have a vacuum leak somewhere or a lean air/fuel mixture. I'd try looking for a leak and changing the fuel filter.
