CLUTCH HELP!

Alright...

2001 Jetta 1.8t Wolfs with manual trans...the clutch is going out according to VW and I can feel it. However, they want to fix it for $1600 and I don't want to spend that much money because #1 i dont have $1600 to spend and #2 I am going to sell the car to buy a 2007 GTI whenever I can sell the Jetta.

my question(s) is/are this:
[ul][*]Is there any place in Los Angeles that will charge less than $1600?[*]Can I just get the clutch resurfaced and call it a day?[/ul]

RE: CLUTCH HELP!

if only you lived near milwaukee, i work at a transmission shop, and we would do clutch for that vehicle for about 500 to 600 bucks and no you cannot get the clutch resurfaced, the clutch is almost like a brake pad once they wear out you need to replace it, you can resurface the flywheel though, thats like the brake rotor, where as you dont need to replace if it isnt too bad, but it can be resurfaced.

RE: CLUTCH HELP!

if your goin to get the flywheel resurfaced, you might as well replace the clutch, resurfacing the flywheel will not help you problem and in order to resurface the flywheel the transmission has to pulled out, so if your gonna have the trans pulled you, the clutch should be replaced, i would call around independent shops, preferable transmission shops, and youll get a better price.
now is the clutch slipping when you accelerate or does the clutch pedal feel spongy or just not right?
