Default Chipped? How do you find out.

Helllo. I just bought a 2002 Jetta 1.8T and was wondering if there is a way to tell if it has been chipped.

Thanks

Thanks for the compliment. Likewise on your ride. So in the 1.8t, the ecu is not flashed thru the obd port ur saying and that to chip it means the ecu has actually been replaced? Just want to be sure.

cd

You would seriously know if it was chipped. There's a a lil box sitting by my ECu, and it gets flashed. I dunno how to explain it, but you can see if it has one ort not.

most of the time they have those, but some program is into the ECU, in this case there would be no difference to the physical look of the ECU, but i think you could tell with power

That's true, if the chip is soldered in-line with ECU. There should still be a record I would think.
