Check engine light
 

I have a 2003 jetta with about 30K and my check engine light came on. I dont seem to have any problems with the car. Is there a way I can reset the check engine light with out bring it to the dealership?

You should download the free software called VAG-COM EN.
You will be able to hook your car up to a laptop and determine a code as to why the check engine light is on.
Some small ways the light would be on would be dirty air filter, low window washer fluid, add oil, etc.........

You could try disconnecting your battery for a few seconds and then reapply and see if it comes on or not

Not sure where you are located but I would try to go to an autoparts store FIRST like Autozone and ask them to run a test of your car on their handheld computers. They will be able to tell you right there what the problem is. Usually they dont charge for that but then again like i said before im not sure where you are located.

Dont reset anything unless you know if there is a problem or not. If the check engine light is on it def. means there is something wrong even though you may not see anything yourself. Ive had experience with this so i know what im talking about.

Just disconnecting the battery my not to the trick all the time. I tried that myself when I had a problem and it still came on. So like i said check it out first.

also try the O2 sensor it might have malfunctioned.
