Exclamation Check Engine Light

My check engine light is on, at first I was told that it was the coil pack. Now I am being told that it is the catalytic converter. They told me that I could get a part that would trick the computer and tell it that my catalytic converter is ok and working properly. Does anyone know what that part is or anything about it? They say that it is mainly used when building a car and you take out the catalytic converter.

Have you hade the car hooked up to a scan tool and pulled the code?

is the check engline light on. or is it blinking.

There are such a thing. they are o2 sensor simulators.

And most important, what year and what engine?

Thanks, I have had it connected but I do not remember what the codes were. The light is on and I can reset it and it will come on about 70 miles later. Its a 2002 Jetta 2.0

Well if you can still hook it up again, thats the besthing you can do, and get the code, and that way we can narrow it down and we know what exactly to look for

That just happened to me. A hose that attaches to my airbox came lose. It trew that code that said "Catalyst below threshhold bank 1". I reattached the hose but had to unplug the ground wire from my batt. to reset it.
