Angry Can't start Jetta GLIII 1995

After several months without using it, I can't start my Jetta GLIII 1995. I put a new battery in it and it started. Next time I tried to start it (a few days later), it didn't start. So I changed the fuel pump for a new one. But in spite of new battery and new fuel pump, it does not start.
The lights do turn on when i try to start it and the engine stutters but the car does not start
What should I do next??? Thanks!!

you need to check for spark from the ign coil.
She won't start ,it it is not firing ,assuming it has a gas engine.

I'm assuming this Jetta GL III is a petrol engine?

There are only three reasons an engine won't start.

1. Mechanical damage due to a broken timing belt.

2. Insufficent spark on a petrol engine.

3. Insufficent fuel on a petrol or diesel or the glow plugs on a diesel engine.

I would check the 109 relay in the fuse\relay box under the bonnet this supplies power to the ecu. The engine will crank but it won't start.

Yes it is a petrol (gasoline) engine...not diesel. Thanks for your help. Will keep you posted and ask again if things don't work. HOpe I can resuscitate this beauty of a car. Thanks!
