Default brake light flashing

I have a 2001 Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg that when I am driving the brake light in the dash keeps flashing? Any ideas? Thanks

Do your brakes feel spongy? check with a flash light around the each wheel to see if there is a leak of any kind,
Also it could mean you need new brake pads or drum brakes depending on car. Investigate that if nothing comes up test the emergency brake to see if the cable is intact.......

More information would be needed to get a better idea of the problem

Your brake lite switching may be malfunctioning. Eventually, you may not be able to shift the transmittion out of park position.
