All you Jetta Guru's Please Help
Hey guys i'm having a problem with my 98 vw jettaI replaced my fuel pump, replaced ignition coil and module, and fuel pump relay. Car runs for about a half hour then dies. It looses voltage to fuel pump andI get no spark from coil. Ihad a diagnostic done and it showed 11 codes but no major codes to keep the car from not running. Car runs for a half hour then dies Ihave to wait an hour before car will run again, in the meantime no spark from coil and no voltage to fuel pump. Some people say it might be ecu on the way out if anyone has ever encountered or has any insight about myproblem help me out please.

You know I had a Grand AM do the same thing, I had metal flakes form the fuel tank clogging up my fuel pump at less than half a tank. I'd turn left and the car would die. No spark, wouldn't kick over, I'd have to wait until everything settled.
As for your problem, did you test the wires to the fuel pump make sure they're getting voltage?? This coulod prolly be a number of things, just check the codes and see where that goes.

I would replace the terminal ends on the wires going into the fuel pump. If the prob still persist, then you are shorting out somewhere through the car. Trace your lines and replace them. Good luck, i hate electrical.

If you are sure, 100% about this whole fuel pump thing...then trace wires from the back along the car to see if one of them is chaffed and grounding. Same with the ignition wires. test the circuit with the car off, and then running at idle.
