98 jetta oil light beeps

hello all,

I have a 99 jetta (one of the last made before vw switched to the ''newer body style). It takes 98 parts tho.

Here's my issue: About a month ago, my oil light came on along with an extremely annoying beeping. I pulled over and shut it down. The oil was good and so I drove home. I have since had the oil changed and the oil filter (as I do on a regular basis.) I had the oil sensor replaced (the one on the side of where you fill the oil). That didn't correct the issue. I then bought an oil pressure gauge and had that hooked up. It replaced that oil sensor.

Most times I can drive 3 miles to work with no beeping. Its when I get to the 10 mile range that it comes on. The oil pressure gauge shows its good.

What the heck could be the issue? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Please note, I am not a car guy and know almost nothing about them, other than how to change the oil myself.

Also, is there only 1 oil sensor or could there be an electrical issue somewhere.

Sounds like your oil pump is going bad. Same thing just happened to mine except I probably have a blown motor because of it. It will start coming on every once in awhile then it will come all the time. My advice is dont drive it or you could end up with a blown motor as well. Take the car to your nearest VW dealership and let the techs take care of it. Also the more you drive the car the more damage will be done.

What kind of motor is in your car?

Most of all the oil sludge problems were in the 1.8t's starting in 97. But get your car in the shop asap because you will do more damage by driving your car. I just found out that my motor is blown and just the new bottom end is 2200 so it will save you in the long run to take it in.

Quick update here. Took the car to the shop and the oil sender was bad. Had I known that, I would have just had my local mechanic change it out. The dang rental car cost me more than to have my car fixed!!
