97 Jetta needs help

Lotus? You would either need an expensive VAG COM scanner that will do that operation (some won't) or take it to the dealer and have them do it. Here in Missouri they would charge $90 bucks in labor to do it. To get a good VAG COM it would be around $400 to $500. Unless you can explain to me what this Lotus is.

The modis didn't have the vw information loaded onto it so that was a dead end. Here is my situation - I took the car to auto zone the code was showing a bad throttle body. We cleaned it and retried it but the code wouldn't erase. We put on another one and it still is running the same codes. Do you have to do something special besides clearing the codes to have the computer recognize the new throttle body? Or what else could be wrong with the car??

Do you remember exactly what the code was? You can try resetting the ecu by disconnecting the battery cables and holding them together for a couple of minutes. I bet that will work. In the factory repair manual for my car it mentions something about sometimes having to program a new throttle body. I replaced mine and didn't have to and I haven't heard of anyone having to. And it is only because mine has a throttle control module connected to it. You have an idle air control valve which is separate from the throttle body.
