2006 Jetta GLI - Lowering Springs causing abnormal wear on tires
In January 2006, we purchased our car off the showroom floor. The dealer had installed lowering springs and put 19" phaeton wheels on it. Its a beautiful car!
At 20,000 miles, the tires were worn down to the belts on the inside edge. The dealership realigned the car and we purchased new tires from Les Schwab ($1,200.00!!). The tires we purchased are warrantied for 45,000 miles. We are now at 20,000 miles on these tires, and guess what... worn out again, on the inside edge. Les Schwab will not warranty the tires because the tires are not evenly worn, and because of this, the warranty is void. Les Schwab said that a camber kit might be necessary to fix the problem.
We just took the car to a non-biased company to see if they could get it aligned and to see if the dealership put in a camber kit when they installed the lowering springs. Unfortunately, the car can not be aligned nominally.. they could barely get the alignment inside the specs. The dealership did not install a camber kit.
I'm looking for advise on how to get this problem fixed. I feel that the dealership should be responsible for fixing it and I also feel that they should buy us a new set of tires.
We are now looking at spending another ~$1,200.00 for a 3rd set of tires. The car only has 53,000 miles on it!! We've already spent $2,400.00 on 2 sets of tires!
