Default 2004 Jetta Oil Question

Hi folks,

Was going to change the oil in the wife's Jetta this weekend. The owners manual recommends 5W-40 oil. I could not find it the local auto parts store. The VW dealer sells it but they wanted $5+ a quart. I see Amsoil has a 5W-40 product, but it is $7+ a quart. Anyone have a good source for this oil?

It is a gas engine, turbo charged.

Default RE: 2004 Jetta Oil Question

Look on E-bay.com for oil for your Turbo. I bought some from a vendor who sells the correct filters and special oil you need. DO NOT use anything but Full Synthetic for LONG endurance. Your Turbo is about a $2800 part. You can burn it up when you shut it off without the correct oil in it. The oil cooks when you just shut it off after running it hard. Best to let your car idle for a few minutes and let the oil cool a little, then shut engine down. If you get on it hard, best to invest in aTurbo Timer!
