My mechanic told me I have to let the engine idle for about 20 seconds before turning it off. He says if I don't it is hard on the Turbo Charger. My Jetta is 2003 with 210,000 kms on the odometer. Is this true?

This is the same procedure for all turbo engines, you don't do the normal boy racer thing and rev it up then switch it off. Turbos on full song can spin upto 240,000 rpm and they need a constant oil flow for bearing lubrication and cooling. It will depend on the type of driving you've been doing as to how long you leave it idling. I mean who in there right mine leaves and engine idling for a couple of minutes when everyone is in a rush?

Then does the turbo recieve lubrication from the engine oil? I'm beyond racing the eng stage--I'm 70yrs old.

Yes the turbo is fed with engine oil from the main oil gallery through its own oil feed pipe and its own separate drain pipe.

Would it have any connection at all with my oil light flashing on when I come to a stop or slowing down when comming to a trafic/stop sign?

Well if your oil pressure light flashes its probably a faulty pressure switch but to be sure you need to connect an oil pressure gauge in where the switch is located to check what pressure is being delivered. Some VW engines do have problems with the oil pump because the drive chain breaks the modification is fit a gear driven oil pump.
