2003 Jetta Catalytic Converter issue

My 2003 Jetta 2.0L has issue w/ Catalytic convertor - P0420. Can i use any universal cat so that i can get rid of Check Engine Light and pass emmisions?

you should be able to. my fiance's car had issues with the cat as well, and in taking it in to a shop, they were able to replace it, including labor for about $250, which surprised me because i was expecting a new cat to cost about $400 on its own, plus labor.

I bought an aftermarket magnaflow cat and it works fine but the o2 sensor and the code for the cat keep tripping my check engine light. I haven't found a way around it. If you don't mind the check engine light on go aftermarket to save money. Everyone I have talked to says any thing aftermarket on these cars causes problems, and I must agree, i have had issues with aftermarket, plug wires, coil, cat, o2 sensors. I will never own another vw, after spending the money to fix the 01 jetta vr6 i have.
