2001 VW Jetta 2.0 overheating. Please help!

Hi guys and gals,
So I've already changed the radiator, radiator cap on overflow tank, the thermostat, and the fan switch because the fan seems to be coming on late. Any how, I can't seem to figure out what is going on. It's seems to stay at 190F in idle but as soon as I start to drive it, it climbs up to 240 and I pull over and slowly it will start to drop. Any help would be amazing👍🏻 Oh and I checked the oil and it's perfect, no milky look or anything like that.

I would check and replace the water pump. Is that a 2001 Jetta 2.0 TDI?

hi keithuk,
Yes it's the tdi. Is that something I could fix on my own or should I take it to the shop? I just looked it up and it seems like a lot of work.

Possible head gasket failure, get the cooling system pressure tested.

If you have no record of the timing belt being changed get it done as the belt breaking can cause more expensive damage. They normally change the water pump at the same time. You will need a few special tools for a timing belt change.
