Default 2001 Jetta GLX front cigarette lighter not working

Hi guys, the cigarette lighter under the AC in my car has never worked since I got my car in 2006. I'm not a smoker so never needed it until now I want to plug in the chargers for all these new gadgets. I checked the fuse described in the manual but it's fine, what could I do to test and fix this problem?

You need a new cigarette plug. (Charging unit)

Racerx002, thanks for the quick reply, I'll check. I think the socket is covered by a flip lid and I have a plug seems to be the lighter. Is it what you talk about? Any details will help.

The socket is what I was referring to. I just couldn't think of a good word to call it.
