2000 VW jetta GLX idles in sputtering rhythm

Hi, Can anyone help? My automatic 2000 jetta VR6 has 51000 miles and is idling like it is "misfiring". I had the spark plugs replaced and a tune up, but that didn't seem to make a differnce. Also while it sputters I can feel it, can hear it and see the lights on my dash board fade or flicker at the same time. My head lights also flicker. I haven't noticed any changes in acceleration or in general power. I've had it hooked up to check for problems, but no trouble codes come up. Right after the tune up I had to have water pump replaced because something about the belt had tilted the pump causing it to make a rubbing loud noise. I was hoping that was it, but it wasn't. I have owned the car for past 7 years and have not had too many problems.

A real mystery, but I know someone has an answer!
Thanks, -Pam

Take it to a chain auto parts store, such as Autozone or O'reilly's and have them check the battery and alternator to make sure they are putting out properly. could be that one or both are going out. sounds to me like it is probably something with alternator, but batter & alternator check are free at auto stores like those.
