1997 Jetta oil in air filter

I recently replaced my air filter and noticed some oil on it. I looked into the tube that is connected to the oil filter and goes to the engine and noticed oil in there as well... Does anyone know what may be causing this? Do I need to replace something? I have 88,000 miles on it and it seems to still run well.

Thanks..

sounds like the motor is spitting oil down the breather hose that goes to the intake... never heard of it before and not sure what could cause that... just a wild guess and probably way off but maybe there's too much oil in the motor...

Someone told me it could be my pvc valve. Does that sound right?

yeah, didnt even think of that.
i believe the PCV is what lets the gases, unspent fuel and whatnot from the motor back into the intake to recirculate via the breather hose.
Makes sense that that valve being bad could easily let oil through the lines.
shouldnt be a hard fix.
good luck
