1997 3 way transmission cooling hose.
 

Hello. I have a friend with a 97 Jetta. I am out of town and can't look at her car right now. I am wondering if replacing this part is of any difficulty? It is easy to get to? does it require me to remove any other parts in the way? Method of attachment? etc. any help would be appreciated. I am trying to decide to work on it or tell her to take it to the shop. Thanks ahead of time.

Is a pretty easy job, just gotta deal with clamps... thats about it... There is no parts to deal with. is that a 2.0L?

Thank you. Yes, a 2.0 liter engine. Since I am not there to see the engine bay, can I just replenish the coolant system via the resivoir (spelling?)? Any special procedure to worry about when doing that? Thanks.

Yeah the only way to fill that up with coolant is through that round reservoir. There is no other way... I would recommend getting the G12 type coolant from the dealership or on this website http://www.germanautoparts.com/Chemi...olants/VW-Audi
But, its ok to use DEX COL. That's if your draining the whole system...

Thank you. I will have to start working on getting that fluid before I start. Is it a good idea to run the engine when cool after I replace the hose and then fill the reservoir while the engine is running to help getting air out of the system? If not, do I need to worry about air trapped in the system and how do I get it out of the system? Thanks.

I would recommend getting a bottle of that coolant system cleaner. Any auto car parts place should have it. It usually says on the rear of the bottle how to do it. But just mix it with water and let it run to its normal temperature. 5-10minutes. Then drain that and fill it with new G12 or DEX COL. :) I'm using DEX COL on my car for now. Mine is 98 Jetta with the same engine.
