1995 Jetta Running Rough, Wont Idle
 

Hello, before I give my vehicle issues, I want to preface this by saying I know nothing about cars. I work on computers and I am completely lost when coming to engine maintenance with cars. However my brother comes by to help but he however is lost as well. Now to the issues with my car. The car ran fine when I got it and the only issue was that it had a valve cover oil leak. my brother helped me fix that up but after that it, it ran rough and refused to idle. I got a code reader for it but it couldnt establish a connection. It seems to run fine at higher rpm's or pretty much actually driving it. It has not been driven since the oil leak was fixed. Any ideas or help is appreciated.

Obviously it isn't easy to diagnose problems over the web when you can't see the vehicle.


There is only one true scanner VAG-COM\VCDS as generic ones are hit and miss. You don't say where you live but AutoZone in USA will do a free scan in the hope you buy something of them.
