1991 jetta runs fine until under load i.e hill
Car starts and idles, I drive it down the road down the hill, it starts stuttering and dying. Under load the damn thing doesn't want to run. Cleaned the IAC, Cleaned the MAF, and also cleaned out the throttle body. I got a complete tuneup. Checked the cylinders, all 4 between 160 and 170 psi. It's an automatic, got the car recently, just got everything else working, cooling system, heater, radio. I'm at a loss. I am not sure what else to do. Anyone have any ideas that may help me. I'm fairly new to VW.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

@Kiethuk do you know the proper way to get codes without vag-com. I'm quite a ways from any dealers, and none of the parts stores have the 1551 diagnosis tool in my area. I've read quite a bit on this subject but doesn't really cover the info I need, everything just links to the diagnostic tool.

1551 diagnosis tool that's the old name for VAG-COM\VCDS.
You don't say where you live. in USA AutoZone will do a free scan, in the hope you buy something of them. |
It is a 1991, it doesn't have an obd port. I have asked Auto zone, they told me they don't have a tool to check it
