18" rims or 19" rims?

I have a 2006 GLI with the 17's on them currently, but i want to switch them up for 18's or 19's. Anyone have any suggestions?

now i looked into it for my car(01jetta) awile back and u can fit 19s with 235/40 rubber under thare no problum exept bumps ofcorse.i would say 18s with 235/40s, you will have the clerence and still tap the speed bumps. remember thoue, it wont fill your wells. you will have to lower the car for that.

RE: 18" rims or 19" rims?

I took my '02 from stock 15s to some aftermarket 18s, with a 225/40 tire. I have no problems whatsoever with rub. I could have easily put some 19s on with the same tire. Since you've already got 17s, I say you could do 19s with no problem. I think the 18s are a perfect fit, but there is a *slight* bit of room left in the wells. Maybe if I'd gone with a bigger tire (like the 235s woody mentions) it would have filled it in...

The only problem I had was I didn't get any hubcentric rings....which will result in your car shaking like a mofo at highway speeds. Make sure if the wheels you order have any such rings available, you get those as well. They're only like 20 bucks for the set.

You'd be a total fool to get anything above a 17. I have 18's and after a while the chassis starts to warp from the rougher ride and the door panels and dash start rattling as a result. You get the same problem with any Porsche or Audi.
